These skills will help you develop a Collaboration Plan for your portfolio project, giving you a practical tool for leading teams in real instructional design settings.
Chapter 3
Managing Budgets and Resources
By the end of this chapter, you will create a Budget and Resource Plan that defines your project’s needs, outlines how resources will be allocated, and anticipates adjustments for risk. This plan will become the third component of your instructional design project management portfolio, demonstrating that you can balance creativity with realistic project constraints.
Chapter 4
Leading a Realistic Project Simulation
The first part of the chapter guides you in applying your plan to a sample case study, allowing you to simulate tasks and decision-making across each project phase. This exercise highlights how theoretical knowledge translates into practical actions. Next, you will learn how to monitor progress and make adjustments in real time, addressing delays, bottlenecks, and shifting priorities without losing control of your project. Finally, you will practice documenting lessons learned, capturing insights about what worked, what didn’t, and how to improve future projects.

Finalizing and Sharing Your Project Plan
This chapter focuses on packaging and sharing your work in ways that demonstrate both competence and confidence. In Section 5.1, you will learn how to assemble your schedule, collaboration plan, budget and resource map, and lessons learned into a cohesive document that is easy for others to understand. In Section 5.2, you will practice presenting your plan with clarity, explaining why you made specific management choices and how they align with project goals. Finally, in Section 5.3, you will look ahead to your future as a learning designer, considering how project management skills will support your long-term growth and leadership.
